Oh WOW, we did our first burns on our fire hoops! We had so much fun! I must say, though, I forgot how scary swinging fire around yourself is… The first burn I was afraid to do much more than waist hoop until some of fuel burned off. But I suppose too much caution is better than not enough. The second burn was much more graceful – I remembered that I do have SOME skill at hooping, and executed a decent arsenal of basic moves.
Since we made our own fire hoops, I was a little nervous about durability and safety. Because, y’know, I worry about things like that. And I must say, other than me whacking my hoop on the ground and breaking a spine off, they held up pretty well. I definitely have some ideas about how to make them more durable, from the wicks to the hoop structure, but all in all, it was a very successful night.
Thanks to the the DJ, Aryon, the gals of Nytronix, and my friend Jess, who played safety a couple of times and was just generally a good sport about everything!
